Twenty years under the fever trees
The house takes its name from the two big fever trees on the front lawn — the pale green ones the hornbills use as a lookout while they wait for breakfast crumbs. We've been hosting Kruger travellers here since 2006: long enough to know which gate to recommend for lions, and which padstal on the R40 has the best biltong.
It's a guesthouse, not a hotel. You'll get a key to the front door, an honesty fridge on the stoep, and directions drawn on a paper map. At night the bushbabies take over the marula tree, and that's the only noise there is.
Made for Kruger mornings
Phabeni Gate is twenty minutes away — close enough to be inside the park as it opens and back at the guesthouse for a late breakfast. We'll pack coffee and rusks for the early start, book you a guided drive if you'd rather not drive yourself, and mark the morning's sightings on the map before you go.
On rest days the Panorama Route runs the other way: God's Window, the Blyde River Canyon and half a dozen waterfalls, all doable between breakfast and dinner.

Breakfast is on the stoep and it isn't small: eggs from the farm stall down the road, pawpaw and granadilla when they're in season, and toast made from yesterday's bread because that's how toast should be made. It's included, and it runs until ten.
The pool faces the koppie and holds the sun until late. Afternoons here are for the loungers, the honesty fridge and a book you won't finish — the Kruger will still be there tomorrow, and so will we.
